Takashi Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist who works mainly in painting and sculpture. His works are full of pop culture, very colorful and playful. However behind this smiley faces, his work explores complicated themes such as life and death, east and west, purity and disruption, etc.

His response on the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the series of paintings and prints, depicting the skull-shaped mushroom cloud with funny faces and color. I was inspired by his work, as he uses childish images in order to make a powerful statement which is not funny and colorful.

I was inspired not by the media he uses but how he makes his work talk for itself as well as this specific series depict the theme I am working on.
